Just as things seemed to be looking up for Cubs, the team announced Wednesday morning they’ll be without one of the heroes of Tuesday night’s thrilling win over the Cardinals as Alfonso Soriano is expected to miss up to six weeks with a terrible case of hypothermia suffered after teammates showered him in cold Gatorade to celebrate his 10th-inning walk-off RBI single in the team’s 3-2 comeback win over St. Louis.
“It’s pretty tough to lose Fonsie that way,” said manager Dale Sveum. “It seems like this team can’t catch a break, unless of course it’s a broken bone or something.”
Soriano’s condition is described as stable, but given his elderly state, could slip into something more serious, or possibly life-threatening at any moment.
