Admitting that it is awkward for the NFL commissioner to have trouble remembering how to spell it’s star player’s and finest coach’s names, Roger Goodell confessed that he played Rock, Paper, Scissors against an intern to determine which press release would go out Wednesday.
“We agreed if I won, it would be spelled Payton with an A,” said a relieved Goodell. “If the kid from Dartmouth won, it would have been Peyton with an E.”
When asked what would have happened with the other release, Goodell said newly signed Broncos QB Peyton Manning would have had to sit out the year.
“I’m just glad we got it right,” Goodell added. “At the end of the day, that’s what matters. Now, if I could just keep all my Dee Browns straight…”
