On Wednesday the Nationals named Stephen Strasburg their Opening Day starter to take on the Cubs, who graciously offered to use up only nine of 160 innings the Tommy John recipient will be limited to this season.
“When a kid like Strasburg has an injury like he did that alters the course of such a promising career, you do what you can to help him out,” said Cubs manager Dale Sveum. “So when he has a two-hit, 86-pitch shutout against us on April 5, we’ll just chalk it up as taking one for the team.”
Sveum then added: “That team being the Nationals, of course.”
