Recently acquired defenseman Johnny Oduya, stepped off the plane from Winnipeg to join his new team in Chicago last week and was greeted by throngs of cheering Blackhawks fans. Team officials have been searching for ways to re-energize a fan base during a frequently forgettable 2011-2012 season. Oduya, who was dressed in a Byfuglien jersey — the request of Hawks brass — was welcomed to “Buff, Buff, Buff” cheers.
“I was pretty excited to be heading to this city” said Oduya ” People here love their bushy headed defenseman, plus its not 40-below zero.”
Blackhawks team president John McDonough was especially excited to see Oduya added to his squad.
“We are planning to just sell Byfuglien jerseys until people notice,” said McDonough. “When fans are excited for any reason, if doesn’t matter if you suck. That was the Cubs motto for many years under my tenure.”
