After coming to spring training with a bodybuilder’s physique and stating he will do anything to stay with the Tigers, Brandon Inge made some enemies in his first day on the job as equipment manager by misspelling star slugger Miguel Cabrera’s name “CABRERROR” on the back of his jersey and mis-numbering second basemen Ramon Santiago’s jersey “E4.”
Inge, who would like to be battling both players for either position, said the mistakes were simply a case of his getting used to a new sewing machine.
Manager Jim Leyland, who has often been accused of giving too much support to the weak-hitting Inge, said these types of changes require time.
“Brandon’s a gamer,” Leyland said. “Once he gets used to the foot pedal on our machine at Lakeland, our jerseys are going to look great.”
