Few gave the Bears a chance in Sunday’s season opener against the favored Falcons, but Chicago dismantled Atlanta 30-12, silencing the critics until next weekend’s game against the Saints when they’ll have to silence them again.
“Sure, the Bears looked really good against Atlanta, but what about when they head to New Orleans this weekend?” asked SI’s Peter King in his weekly Monday Morning Quarterback column. “That will be a huge test of this team unlike this huge test of the team that wound up not meaning as much since they won handily.”
King added that quarterback Jay Cutler will need to work hard to prove his 312-yard, two-TD performance Sunday wasn’t an anomaly.
“Cutler will need to have four or five more games like that to convince me that he’s for real,” wrote King. “If he has even an average performance against the Saints I’ll know that I wasn’t wrong for predicting the Bears would lose against Atlanta, even though they beat them soundly.”
