Less than a week after his early exit from the NFC Championship game with a knee injury, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has announced he will appear on the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.”
“Yeah, it’s funny,” said Cutler, who drew the wrath of fans as he sat out with his injury, and again when he was seen walking around LA later in the week. “After the game I figured I’d have to decline the invite, but I woke up this morning and my knee felt awesome. I guess it was a false alarm. So now I’m planning to show the country some serious moves.”
In the biggest game of his career, Cutler played only briefly in the second half before yielding his position to first Todd Collins and then Caleb Hanie. Hanie led the team to two scores but also had two critical interceptions as the Bears lost 21-14.
Cutler said the DWTS offer surprised him since he’s not much of a dancer, but his girlfriend, reality TV star Kristin Cavallari, encouraged him to accept.
“She said reality TV is like life and you’ve got to suck it up, despite the risk of failure or humiliation,” said Cutler. “And Sunday, as I was sitting bored on the bench, I realized she’s right. I might never get another chance like this, so I’m going to go watch ‘Billy Elliot’ and then strap on a pair of tap shoes and show the country what I’m made of.”
Cutler vowed the knee won’t stop him. “I’ll dance with pain if I have to. I’m in it to win it.”
