Baron Davis can’t say that.

After tying his career-high 40 points during a 119-111 victory over the Bulls at the United Center Friday night, the Warriors’ guard did the unthinkable: he compared himself to His Airness.

“I scored 40 in the United Center,” he said (actual quote alert!). “I felt like [Michael] Jordan out there.”

Oh hell no. The Bulls’ media relations department quickly went into damage control to sweep the loss–and Davis’ comments–under the rug by touting the Bulls’ 97-91 victory over the Pistons.

“Did you see we beat the Pistons again?” the Bulls said in a release Sunday morning. “How neat is that?”

Ben Gordon scored a team-high 33 points to fuel the Bulls to a 3-0 record against the number two seed in the Eastern Conference. After the game, Gordon was at a loss to explain the victory.

“We’re honestly not this good,” Gordon said. “Just look at the loss last night against Golden State. We sucked. [Baron] Davis scored 40 points against us and looked a lot like … ”

Gordon was pulled off stage by the Bulls’ media relations machine before he could say the unthinkable.
