After an extremely quiet offseason, particularly by New York standards, the Yankees have made an April splash by signing the Geico Caveman to be the team’s designated hitter.
“Mr. Steinbrenner saw some of the Geico ads during a commercial break of ‘The Gilmore Girls’ and made one of his famously impulsive decisions,” said Yankees GM Brian Cashman. “The next thing you know, the Caveman is on a plane to New York and our bench is even deeper.”
The Caveman’s first days with the Yankees have created much confusion in the locker room, after several teammates mistook him for prehistoric-looking centerfielder Johnny Damon.
