Texas Rangers outfielder Sammy Sosa, who was booed loudly by the US Cellular Field Tuesday night, answered back with a three-run homer in the eighth inning. Sosa’s ever-present hop, stutter-step before each base, and kisses to the camera in the dugout followed, and were not ignored by Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.
Guillen, in a post-game news conference, said something probably very harsh about Sosa, prompting Sosa to reply back. Unfortunately for baseball fans everywhere, nobody has any idea what either is saying.
“Dude, Ozzie looked pissed,” said Sox fan Robbie Zimmer. “I think he said he was going to have to hit Sosa. Or he said he was Sosa was going to have to hit.”
Observers we’re equally confused by Sosa’s response.
“Sammy seems legitimately disturbed by Ozzie’s comments,” said Mike Imrem, a reporter for the Daily Herald who played Guillen’s press conference back to Sosa. “The only word I could make out was ‘gladiator,’ which Sosa said approximately seven times, though he did look like he was going to cry.”
