Although only playing in a “B” game, White Sox outfielder Scott Podsednik had quite the day Wednesday. Recovering from a sports hernia, the speedy leadoff hitter went 3 for 4 and stole a base against the Rockies. Topping off Podsednik’s great day was the fact he got to go home to his wife Lisa Dergan, Playboy’s Miss July 1998.
There’s nothing better than stealing a bag, knowing you have the hottest wife in Major League Baseball,” said Podsednik. “Then again, there’s nothing better than getting caught stealing a base, knowing you have the hottest wife in Major League Baseball.”
Always the jokester, manager Ozzie Guillen could not resist the temptation of weighing in on the issue of Podsednik’s beautiful better half.
“Attendance at U.S. Cellular is only good for opening day and the Cubs series,” said Guillen. “Maybe we can have Pod’s wife parade around the field on some half-price Mondays.”
Bench coach Joey Cora added, “She can hold up a numbered sign indicating the next inning.”
The score for spring training games, especially those featuring rehabbing players and non-roster invitees, is not really important, so one can’t blame Podsednik for not remembering if the White Sox won Wednesday.
“When you’re married to a Playmate, you tend to not care if you beat the Rockies in the middle of March,” Podsednik said. “Then again, when you’re married to a Playmate, you tend to not care about pretty much anything else.”
