The Blackhawks are now 2-2 on the year as they lost to the St. Louis Blues 4-3 Saturday night. There is no shortage of scoring this season for the Hawks, however. They have netted 18 goals in their first four games. Just to put it in perspective, it took the Hawks eight games to reach that number last season.
“Yeah, we’re scoring a lot this year,” new winger Martin Havlat said. “Well, let’s be honest: I’m scoring a lot this year. I’m so good it’s sick. Damn sick.”
Havlat scored two goals in the loss to St. Louis. Bryan Smolinski tallied the other one. Brian Boucher got the nod in net in place of Nikolai Khabibulin, giving the Hawks regular goaltender a night off. Boucher was sharp, but the Hawks were unable to hold off the Blues. Special teams were the biggest problem: The Blackhawks were 0-7 on the power play while St. Louis scored three with the man advantage.
The Blackhawks play in Colorado Monday night. It’ll be on TV, which is cool. But who are we kidding? We’ll be watching the Bears murder Matt Leinart and the Cardinals.
